New blog, who dis?

Hi! I'm quite late to the blogger trend aren't I. This blog is mostly just a place for me to ramble about my lolita opinions, I don't quite expect anyone will read it. I did use to have a lolita blog once upon a time, but it's been deleted off blogger years ago.

I'm starting off with the lolita 52 tag, which is pretty old at this point but I'm bored and...I need something to talk about.

1.  5 pieces that every Lolita wardrobe should have, regardless of style

A plain white blouse, a pair of black or white shoes, white ankle socks, a soft cupcake petticoat, a hoop skirt for summer. I would say the blouse and petticoat are the most important basics.

2.  5 movies for Lolitas

Kamikaze Girls, that's honestly the only movie there is. But I also love the Secret Life of the Lolita by Deerstalker and anything by Scarfing Scarves. When I was younger I watched a lot of Princess Peachie as well. Occasionally I watch some Lovely Lor. Misako also has a youtube channel but I don’t watch it since I don't speak Japanese.

3.  What my own Lolita lifestyle is like 

I wear it out most days here at university in Edinburgh. Surprisingly my most worn dress is a classic OP in navy even though I'm primarily a sweet lolita, mostly because the dress is extremely comfortable, more low-key and convenient.

4.  Favorite thing to put on my head

A headbow. The bigger the better, I love giant headbows. Especially ones with wire that lets me make them stand up. I'm trying to figure out how to put wires inside headbows because if I do that it'll be a major game changer.

5.  My wardrobe turnover

Not that quick to be honest. I only sell pieces I really don't want anymore. I buy one or two pieces a month, depending on how much money I have and whether I have other activities that month.

6.  My favorite Lolita brand

Angelic Pretty by a wide margin. 2010 sweet for life. Although I really like some of BtSSB's blouses. Looking to get my hands on a Chiffon Princess.

7.  Why I wear Lolita?

It makes me feel pretty and it's fluffy! I have low self-esteem and lolita helps with it.

8.  Why don't I wear Lolita more often?

I quite literally lifestyle it so I can't really answer this question. The only times I don't wear lolita are when I go to concerts because I don't want to damage my dresses, or when I'm trying out another kei style.

10.  How I first found out about Lolita

I heard about it right before I went to Japan when I was 8. We saw a BtSSB store there and I fell in love with the style p much since then. I spent years on fyeahlolita and watching princess peachie as well as trawling hellolace, lolibrary and egl on livejournal. There was even a period of time when I would check BtB.

11.  3 trends I wish would come back

Fucking 2010 sweet hello!! I love my pastel vomit. Also quite liked the peignoir trend and the rise and fall of ouji in the mid 2010's.

12.  Combining other fashions with Lolita

I do that with fairy kei mostly, or decora when I go OTT. I would love to pull off a MCR coord someday though.

13.  Lolitas I have met in real life

One of my mates in secondary school is a lolita, but I think she's pretty much the only one I know except people whom I've met at conventions.

14.  Lolitas I would love to meet

I would die if I met Tyler Willis or Peachie. Or obviously Misako, but the other two mean more to me sentimentally.

15.  3 things I wish I was told when I was a new Lolita

Do your research and make sure the dress you're buying isn't a replica. Don't buy replicas, goddammit. Design or otherwise. Lacemarket is your friend.

16.  10 facts about my Lolita wardrobe

It's small, I don't fit into any of my AP, I have 2 Jewelry Jelly dresses, I have one classic dress, I thought I was going to love gothic but I don't have any gothic, I have too many bags and I want to buy more, it doesn't fit into my current wardrobe, it's split between Hong Kong and Scotland, I have too many accessories that aren't sweet and I have a lot more ouji than I think.

I haven't been to a meetup unfortunately but hopefully I will soon!

18.  Trends I thought I would never get into, but I now love

Well when I first got into lolita for about 7 years I thought I was going to be into gothic. When I finally had financial means at 15 to buy clothes I fell headfirst into sweet lolita and I love the OTT look.

19.  Trends I thought I loved, but now I'm not too keen on

The whole Madonna crown thing is so overdone…

20.  How satisfied I am with my current wardrobe

I love the pieces I have but I would like to have some more. I'm losing weight so I can buy more AP that I will hopefully fit into!! And I don't think I will be satisfied until I have a sugary carnival. And I'm trying to sell off some of the clothes I don't wear as much.

21.  Plan for a trip! A week's worth of Lolita outfits I can fit in a small suitcase

My navy OP that can be worn in a gothic or classic way (2 outfits), a sax OP with/without a pink BL blouse underneath for long sleeves (2 outfits), my memorial cake JSK with a white blouse and with a cardigan (2 outfits), my black heels, my pink tea parties, and a cutsew to wear over or under my MC JSK (1 outfit)

22.  How I accessorize

I put on a headbow and then pile on the accessories and hope for the best? I'm not big on bracelets but I love necklaces.

23.  What influences my Lolita style

Katiebabydoll and Baninabear on instagram are both massive inspirations for me. Tyler Willis has outstanding coords in and out of lolita. And my friend Mitsuru is a lovely doll-like lolita who inspires me as well.

24.  What's in my makeup bag

I don't have one but I should get one. What I use for makeup mostly is just a 3-in-1 concealer and setting spray, sometimes with a bit of lipstick or eyeliner. And blush.

25.  Best places to wear Lolita

Everywhere to be honest. I love it. Maybe not at a cinema though unless you don't mind deflated sad petticoats (or if yours is made of voile)

26.  How I get out of a wardrobe slump

Easy. Starve yourself to buy more clothes.

27.  Purses that I love

My all-time favorite is my giant white gold heart bag from Whale Fall. It's huge and has so much room. I also had an infanta bag that I really liked but I sold since it didn't really fit with most of my coordinates. For everyday use I have a pink wego bag and for classic coords I just use an offbrand tote tbh.

28.  Bloomers or no bloomers?

I used to wear super itchy Classical Puppets organza petticoats so I would need bloomers for those. But now I stack them on top of my Peacockalorum petticoat which has a long cotton lining that's perfect, so I don't really need the bloomers anymore. I'm planning to get a voile MLT hyper poof monster soon and I don't think I'll need bloomers with that either.

29.  Lolitafying things in my everyday life

I don't do this because I can't afford to, and I live with my parents (when I'm not at uni, where I would be in accommodation) whom aren't keen on my love of frills. But if I could I'd love to have a walk-in wardrobe similar to Tyler's (of Scarfing Scarves) or even just a big bedroom with lots of wardrobe space like Milkyfawn's that I could decorate with lolita postcards and other novelty items.

30.  How long it took me to build a complete wardrobe

Like half a year through saving lunch money (I got the equivalent of 5 USD a day and I used to skip lunch)

31.  Impulse buys that were totally worth it

Bidding on my Jewelry Jelly OP in Lacemarket. I was going to get Sugary Carnival as well but I was outbid at the last second (still super salty about that, it was rare to see a Sugary Carnival that cheap)

32.  My best deal

A Memorial Cake JSK for 70 pounds was probably my best deal, especially considering when I got it I was younger and had less of an allowance. I got it from a local lolita whom I'm still friends with on Facebook.

33.  Something that I made

I've made two skirts - both for bell petticoats, with simple lace trimming attached to the lining. One has lemons on the print and the other has peaches. These were my first time making proper everyday wear (I had previously made my prom dress but it was much more dramatic)

34.  Wardrobe blunders! Things I bought that I ended up regretting!

My first dress was am And Romeo replica bought on taobao. It was surprisingly not that bad in terms of quality, I cut off bits of bad lace and sewed some nicer ones on but in the end I think I sold the dress after a year. I didn't find out that it was a replica until about a year ago which actually quite surprised me. I also have a replica coat and a replica cutsew (both of AP) that I'm quite ashamed of - I didn't know they were replicas at the time and they were bought secondhand from local comm members as well. I'm trying to sell them off so my wardrobe is replica-free.

35.  What I thought when I got my first real piece of Lolita

I'm gonna change my answer to what I thought when I got my first firsthand piece of brand bc that's the one I remember. It was the Polonaise Brillante ~Ideas of Maiden~ apron JSK and I was absolutely elated. It was so beautiful. The print was so vibrant and it also actually fit me. I spent so long just staring at it.

36.  Nails to match my favorite looks

I don't wear nail polish because I'm bad at painting them and I'm a clumsy person! I try to keep my nails short so grime doesn't get under them.

37.  Something that's not my style, but I love anyways

The Silent Moon OP by Moitie. I'm not a big Moitie girl (Mana creeps me out) and this is pretty much the only Moitie thing I find pretty and want to own.

38.  Favorite hair style

Twintails with bangs! I don't have bangs and I've only ever had them when I was a young child - around 3 or 4. I know they're a lot of work but I'm planning to get bangs sometime in November - I'm quite excited to, and a few of my friends have expressed their support. I used to wear twintails every day to school and I still wear them sometimes despite being 20. My mother hates it, but then again she's never liked most of my self-expression.

39.  Most versatile Lolita item I own

Petticoat aside, probably my black heels. They're much easier to wear than tea parties when I'm in a hurry since they've only got one strap and I don't have to shove my foot through the look of the strap. They also go with old school sweet so I don't have to worry about matching shoe colors.

40.  5 inspirational fictional characters

Related to lolita, I think Momoko is everyone's go-to. Especially since I'm a lifestyler (somewhat, let me have this). When I was younger I also aspired to be like Beth from Little Women, and the main character (whose name I do not remember) from a Chinese book called Fancy Lolita published in Taiwan, about a teenager who discovered a lolita shop. It even name dropped Angelic Pretty!

41.  Fondest meetup memory

I don't go to meetups so unfortunately I don't have one :( but some of my fondest memories in lolita are in Krakow when a Swedish lady asked to take pictures of my dress and I had a conversation with a Polish man from Japan about lolita. I was so delighted that someone recognized the style!

42.  The ways in which I fit the cliché

I'm Asian so…there's that. Sugary Carnival is my ultimate dream dress, I like peignoirs and my favorite style is 2010 OTT sweet. I don't think I can get more basic than that as a sweet lolita.

43.  The ways in which I do not fit the cliché

I'm a Fat Asian. Which, if you've not noticed, is way different than the skinny models on the pages of Girlism or the GLB. I also swear a lot and I'm very clumsy. I don't really mind that I don't fit the cliché though. I am trying to lose weight to fit into half my wardrobe but otherwise I'm trying to accept what I look like? Oh, and I don't wear wigs, I have a lot of hair and it doesn't fit well under wig caps.

44.  How strangers react to my clothes, and how I react to their reactions

I've only ever received one bad reaction and it was in Hong Kong, from a condescending seller at a stall, calling me a baby. I don't really care. Mostly I just get people on the streets of Scotland who ask to take pictures with me? And I've been interviewed at a con once.

45.  Something that was a gift

My jewelry bag that I use to store all my accessories was given to me by one of my best friends (she filled it with candy!! Which I promptly polished off). Other than that I don't think I've received lolita gifts (which is kind of good since you've got to know at least the basics to pick a proper lolita thing instead of…hello kitty or milanoo quality) 

46.  Parasols: Vital or frivolous?

Definitely frivolous. I have a blue umbrella that doubles as a parasol but I would really love a branded pink one.

47.  The item in my wardrobe that was the hardest to get

My Anna Polka ouji set from ZJ Story, still one of my favorite sets I've bought. I missed the reservation so I had to buy from leftover stock really quick. I adore it so much, it's very different to the rest of my wardrobe but I love the elegance of it.

48.  My "signature" outfit

Definitely my himena sax OP with pink accent accessories, the matching headbow and pink tea parties! With my wego bag as well.

49.  My favorite Lolita print

Tie between Sugary Carnival and Jewelry Jelly. I have a weakness for jelly and gelatin based products. They're just adorable. The one dream item of mine that isn't a main piece is the jello mold hat that AP put out with Jewelry Jelly.

50.  What's in my closet, but I haven't worn yet!

My Jewelry Jelly OP because my boobs are too big. Which is very sad because I love it so much. I take it out of my closet sometimes just to look at it and admire it.

51.  Predict the next Lolita trend!

OTT gothic where you just try and pile on as many crosses as you can.

52.  How Lolita has changed me

I'm a lot more confident in lolita. I also take a lot more care with my clothes and make sure not to 'waste' them - always try and maintain their 'shelf life'.
